At SS Peter and St Paul we believe that prayer is the heartbeat of our Catholic identity. Guided by the new Prayer and Liturgy directory “Loving you more dearly”, our prayer and liturgy programme invites every child to encounter God’s love in a joyful, creative and multisensory way. Below you will find an overview of the resources, policies and opportunities that support a vibrant prayer life for pupils, families and staff.
Mass Families are warmly welcomed to attend the parish Mass each Sunday. Each term there is a Sunday Family Mass where we invite families to attend and Pupils lead the readings and intercessions. There are also School Masses – Celebrated on alternate Tuesdays in Church and on feast days and Holy days of obligation. The masses are led by different classes, the children read at mass and share intercessions for the local and wider community. Masses to celebrate the sacraments of reconcilation, Holy communion and Confirmation are also key opportunities for families, pupils and staff to gather to support the pupils to live out their faith.
Celebration of the Word Every Monday the whole school gather for a celebration of the word, reflecting upon the Sundays Gospel.
Prayer Opportunities
Daily times of prayer – Each class gathers in prayer in the morning, lunchtime and end of day, using our common prayers to be known. Throughout the year, children will learn a range of prayers to enhance their journey of faith throughout the liturgical seasons, helping to deepen their relationship with God.
Prayer Spaces – Each class has a dedicated prayer focus area, and there are additional prayer focus areas throughout the school including Prayer Gardens which provide inviting places for personal reflection for all pupils, staff and parents.
Weekly Pupil‑Prepared Prayer Sessions – Every Wednesday, each class shares a pupil prepared prayer session or participates in a creative prayer session led by pupils and staff. Parents are also invited to paricipate in Stop and pray sessions at key times throughout the year.
Prayer and Praise Club - Our dedicated GIFT team invite all classes to participate in weekly prayer at lunchtime. The prayer theme changes every month in line with the liturgical season, for example they have led a remembrance club, St Valentines and Lent prayer club.
Faith Journals - All classes record their journey of faith in their class faith journal, including their times of prayer, pilgrimmages and catholic social action.
Supporting Families at Home
Prayer Bags – During the seasons of ADVENT and LENT Each class sends home a prayer bag containing prayer resources including a set of rosary beads, an LED candle and a short guide for family prayer. The bag encourages children to bring the school’s prayer life into the home during these key times of preparation, sharing prayer with parents and siblings.
