Our School Secret Garden
Twiglets
Our new Twiglets sessions run by the Forest of Mercia began on Monday 9th November. Selected children are working with natural and found materials to explore, use and develop an interest in the natural environment around them whilst continuing the ongoing development of our school secret garden. Activities include scavenger hunts, craft work, growing and recycling work.
You can find out what the children have been doing during the sessions each week, by reading the weekly updates below.

Week 4: 30/11/20
This week in the Twiglets session the children did lots of lovely outdoor crafts!
They used bubble wrap and paint to create a tree picture, built a snowman out of clay and made a hedgehog out of leaves that they found around them. Next they went on a scavenger hunt looking for insects and bugs. Finally, to finish the session the children all got the chance to plant a new tree in the school garden, which we look forward to watching grow.

Week 3: 23/11/20
This session began by reflecting on last week, before raking up some of the autumn leaves which had fallen all around the garden. The children then collected some maple leaves to create their own picture of a fox; and to the leaves they added a red nose and googly eyes.
Everyone then went on a gratitude scavenger hunt which involved finding:
The session then ended by using slices of silver birch to make a coaster for a cup of tea.
Everyone then went on a gratitude scavenger hunt which involved finding:
- something that makes you happy
- something to give to someone to make them smile
- something you love to smell
- something that is your favourite colour
- something that you are thankful for
- something you could use to make a gift
- something that is useful for you
The session then ended by using slices of silver birch to make a coaster for a cup of tea.
Week 2: 16/11/20
The children began by using the books that they made in the previous session to write about what they had enjoyed last week. They then planted some daffodils, used pinecones to make pinecone creatures and made clay hedgehogs using twigs from the secret garden. The children also enjoyed a doing a scavenger hunt!
Week 1: 9/11/20
This week the children used paper and sticks to make their own books. They also made a bonfire picture using leaves and sticks that they found in the secret garden, and then used apples and paint to make poppies.
School Secret Garden update Autumn 1:

The overgrown pond has now been cleared. We are hoping to work on its restoration in the new year.
School Secret Garden update:
A couple of weeks ago work began on our secret garden. Leading this project is Mrs McGrath along with her super gardening partner Mrs Adams. Together with the help of a group of children and other staff members work has gotten off to a fabulous start.
So far we have cleared the path, weeded the raised beds, planted strawberries, nasturtiums and onions. Children attending school have put up butterfly feeders, hunted for minibeasts and found a frog!
Our garden already has pear, plum and apple trees growing. We also have red current and gooseberry bushes in planters.
Week 2 [w/c 30th March]
This week children attending school have made bird feeders, wild flower bookmarks and continued with the gardening.
I think you will be able to see from our photos how much the garden has improved already.
