At SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School, we are proud to be an inclusive, nurturing community where every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to shine. We recognise that all children learn in different ways, and some may need additional support at certain times in their school journey. Our aim is to ensure that every pupil receives the right help, at the right time, so they can thrive both academically and emotionally.
Our approach to SEND
We follow a child-centred, compassionate approach to supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. This means we look closely at each child’s individual needs, strengths, interests, and barriers to learning. By working in partnership with families and outside agencies, we create a personalised plan that helps each child move forward confidently.
We use the Graduated Approach – Assess, Plan, Do, Review – to make sure support is timely, effective, and continually adapted to help children succeed.

What are Special Educational Needs?
A child or young person has special educational needs if he or she has a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her. A learning difficulty or disability is a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age. Special educational provision means educational or training provision that is additional to, or different from, that made generally for others of the same age in a mainstream setting in England…. Health care provision or social care provision which educates or trains a child or young person is to be treated as special educational provision.

The Hive
The Hive is our school-run alternative provision, created to support children who may be finding it difficult to access learning within their usual year-group setting. It offers a calm, nurturing environment where pupils can feel safe, supported, and ready to learn at a pace that suits them.
Each day, children in The Hive take part in focused English and Maths sessions, taught in small, friendly groups. This approach allows our staff to provide personalised teaching, targeted interventions, and plenty of encouragement along the way. By working closely with each child, we aim to build confidence, strengthen key skills, and help them make steady progress.
Our goal is for every child to feel successful, valued, and ready to re-engage with their wider classroom learning when the time is right. The Hive is just one of the many ways we ensure that all children at our school receive the support they need to thrive.
