Maths at SS Peter and Paul
The Aims at SS Peter and Paul for the curriculum of Maths are:
*To provide mental calculation within daily numeracy lessons to improve recall of number facts and to develop their fluency when working with number;
*To develop children’s skills in reasoning, problem solving and deriving of answers with emphasis on systematic working;
*To provide opportunity for active learning in order that the children have ‘concrete’ first-hand experience to relate to and so essential mathematical language can be developed;
*To develop pupils’ familiarity with appropriate mathematical concepts, principles, methods and vocabulary;
*To develop pupils’ understanding of mathematics in it’s widest context and see how it relates to themselves outside school;
*To enjoy the subject and study it with confidence and a sense of achievement. To achieve their mathematical potential:
*To apply a range of skills with confidence and understanding when solving problems.

This week the children have enjoyed taking part in Maths Week England based on the theme ' Three is a Magic Number.'
EYFS children have enjoyed thinking about number 3, whilst Y1/2 and Y2/3 completed a Maths on Toast workshop on terrific triangles. Y4/5 have created triangle webs and Y5/6 children have been solving a variety of puzzles. Ten children were chosen to complete the Primary Maths Challenge and children from Y3-6 have also competed in TTRockstars England Rocks competition.
Well done to all children for your willingness and eagerness to try lots of open-ended maths work and challenges and join in with the largest national maths festival in the world.
